Better Plate is operated by Betterplate Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17212683). We are the controller of your personal data. For anything privacy-related, contact us at support@betterplate.co. Better Plate is intended for users aged 18 and over; we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
We do not collect your location, and we do not sell your personal data.
AI processing:recipes are generated using artificial intelligence (Anthropic’s Claude). Your inputs are sent to our AI provider to generate your result. We do not train AI models on your data, and our AI provider does not train its models on data submitted through its API. AI output can be inaccurate — always check ingredients against your own allergies and dietary needs.
We do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
We use trusted service providers to run Better Plate, under contracts that protect your data: Supabase (database and sign-in), Render (hosting), Anthropic (AI generation), Edamam (nutrition verification), Expo (app builds and push notifications) and Vercel (website hosting). Your app store (Apple or Google) processes your subscription payments under its own terms. We may also share data with our professional advisers, with authorities where legally required, and with a buyer if our business is sold (who must use it as described here).
Some of our providers (including Anthropic) are based in the United States. Where your data leaves the UK or EEA, we protect it using UK-approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.
We keep your data while your account is active. If you don’t use the app for 12 months, we treat the account as expired and delete your personal data. Basic records we’re legally required to keep (for example for tax) are retained for up to six years. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data; object to or restrict our processing; request a portable copy; and withdraw consent at any time (including for dietary data, in Settings). To exercise any right, email support@betterplate.co. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, contact us first so we can put it right — you also have the right to complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office.
The mobile app does not use cookies. Our website uses essential browser storage to make it work and privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics. If we introduce advertising tools that use tracking cookies, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is restricted using row-level security and authentication, and our systems are designed so that AI and database credentials never leave our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we have procedures in place to detect and respond to data breaches and will notify you and the regulator where we’re required to.
We review this policy regularly and will post any changes here, notifying you in the app or by email if the changes are significant.
